CAPTAIN HUBBARD

Excerpts from a report on Captain Al Hubbard's DMT Experience, March 23, 1961...

"Flashing stars and a deep network of blue...very intricate design, spirals interwoven within spirals....Great enormous peace.... Extremely beautiful... Beautiful streams of color, very friendly, A pull sideways in time... Picture of Christ on Cross viewed on the opposite wall...You can walk right into it with great ease....They are projections of ourselves...project the most perfect part of us...then proceed to worship it....Even your bones feel good...My oh my...My oh my.... More powerful than LSD, any resistance would be like fighting a monster....What a wonderful world! ....We make our devils and they laugh at us....This is the soul expressing itself--that's why resistance is so painful...It is so terribly intense...It seemed an awfully lot like death. Old Al Hubbard was gone....

Father Leo Brown, turned on to LSD by Captain Al Hubbard, Cathedral of the Holy Rosary in Vancouver, "Introduction to LSD Experience," December 8, 1957...

"Friends: True scientific knowledge is the honourable objective of man's inquisitive intellectual faculties.... We are aware of man's fallibility and will be protected in our studies by that understanding and recognition of the First Cause of all created things and the laws that govern them. We therefore approach the study of these psychodelics (sic) and their influence in the mind of man anxious to discover whatever attributes they possess, respectufully evaluating their proper places in the Divine Economy. We humbly ask Our Heavenly Mother the Virgin Mary, help of all who call upon Her to aid us to know and understand the true qualities of these psychodelics, the full capacities of man's noblest faculties and according to God's laws to use them for the benefit of mankind here and in eternity."

LEARY & PALS

Jack Kerouac to Timothy Leary, January 1961, after Kerouac experimented with magic mushroom pills supplied by Leary..."Mainly I felt like a floating Khan on a magic carpet with many interesting lieutenants and gods....We were at the extremest point goofing on clouds watching the movie of existence....Everybody seemed innocent...It was a definite satori. Full of psychic clairvoyance (but you must remember that this is not half as good as the peaceful ecstasy of simple Samadhi trance as I described in Dharma Bums).... Jokes were the sacred jokes of Heaven....we could develop the greatest scholars and scientists in the world with this stuff..."

Handwritten letter from Aldous Huxley to Timothy Leary, June 6, 1961..."You are right about the hopelessness of the "scientific" approach. Those idiots want to be Pavlovians not Lorenzian Ethnologists. Pavlov never saw an animal in its natural state, only under duress. The "scientific" LSD boys do the same with their subjects. No wonder they report psychoses."

Memorandum For the Record, "International Federation for Internal Freedom (IFIF), Alpert, Richard, Ph.D., Leary, Timothy F., Ph.D., November 1, 1963 – Leary under CIA surveillance before he was fired from Harvard --"Uncontrolled experimentation has in the past resulted in tragic circumstances....Any information concerning the use of this type of drug for experimental or personal reasons should be reported immediately....[A]ny information of Agency personnel involved with...Leary, or with any group engaged in this type of activity should also be reported."
