I have just bought a very interesting book by Henry Corbin, a
famous French scholar that studied Iranian civilization. It is called
'Alchimie comme art hiératique', L'Herne, 219 pages. It translates and
comments some important Muslim/Persian alchemical works written by
Jaldakî, Jâbir (Geber), and a rtearise named 'the book of the seven
statues, by Apollonios of Tyana'. It can be of interest to those
studying Geber and Zozimos of Panapolis.

Yours,

Mateus.

Dear Mateus,

Thanks for your post on Henry Corbin.

Do you know if this text is available in English?

Specifically, do you know if "The Boook of the Seven Statues" by
Apollonius of Tyana, exists in English translation by Corbin or anyone
else.

Thanks so much,

Dear E E M, I'm afraid this book might not be available in English yet,
as it consists of posthumous lecture notes and manuscripts gathered by
Corbin's students and edited by one Pierre Lory. Some of the material
are notes from his lectures at the Institute of Ismaili Studies. As the
book came out in 1986, perhaps there is a translation somewhere by now,
but to be frank I have never seen much of his work translated anyway.

Best regards,
Mateus.

A number of his works are available in English.

Creative Imagination in the Sufism of Ibn'Arabi
Man of Light
Avincinna and the Visionary Recital

(titles are probably mangled a little as I'm not with my library)

There is also a book out with his essays on Swedenborg.

Re the works of Henry Corbin available in English, I have "Cyclical Time in
Mazdaism and Ismailism," and also "Divine Epiphany and Spiritual Birth in
Ismailian Gnosis." the latter delving into the mystery of the "Cross of
Light" revealed to John.

Of particular interest to this group would be an English translation of his
French work, "Spiritual Body, Celestial Earth". This work contains a
section on alchemy as well passages from various Muslim (especially Shi'ite)
philosophers throughout the ages. An extremely interesting book...
